Colored Pencil Drawing

This piece was a color drawing for art class, in which we were to color and shade with colored pencils. The five objects chosen were a wooden mask, a seashell, a horn, a cup, and a pinecone which had been painted white. I wanted the five objects to be similar to what a pack-rat might have, and they seemed to fit the bill quite nicely. I rushed on this project in some areas, so I’d say a low C is what I’d rate myself on this project. Much of the shading is off, resulting in mere blocks of light to dark instead of blending it in properly, and the horn is not quite visible, as in my perspective, it was behind everything else. From this project, I’d have to say that I prefer shading with graphite pencils than color.

This is one of the art projects done in my art II drawing class. We were to draw and shade with graphite pencils, using any objects we wanted that we brought to class, and could continue to bring for each class period. I chose to draw a bottle of cologne from my backpack along with a comb. I didn’t focus too much on blending some of the shading, most notably under the bottle, and it resulted in looking more like lines. The white line going from the bottom of the bottle through the shadow is a glare of light that went through the bottle, resulting in said line. When the picture was taken, there was too much light, and it resulted in the color of the mass of lead right under the bottle to change into a color much similar to the table. Out of all, I would say that I did at least a B-grade job on this picture.

I am Daylnn S. I enjoy abstract artwork, since even though it’s a bit hard to look at for me (since it kinda hurts my eyes), it interprets the world the way someone else thinks it should be interpreted as. I hope to improve my drawing skills in people mostly, though I would also enjoy getting better at backgrounds and perspective.
